The construction of a vehicle painting workshop in Amuwo-Odofin G.R.A has drawn the ire of the about 10.000 residents who are  now seeking the Lagos State government’s interpretation of the extant  Urban and Regional Planning Laws and the National Building Code.

The residents who claimed that the development of the workshop contravened the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2010. According to prohibits the establishments of a commercial industry in a residential area.

The residents are worried about the health implications of the construction of the factory which manufactures chemical far painting vehicles in their neighbourhood. According to them, the chemicals from the factory are hazardous.

Leader of the residents, Alhaji Tunde Keshinro wants the State Government to halt the construction of the factory until the anomaly is rectified.

Keshinro explained that the establishment of the vehicle workshop contravenes both the Physical Planning and Urban Development, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA and the New Town Development  Authority, NTDA, the residents called on the government agencies to shut down the chemical workshop.

The petition which was signed by nine of the executive members of the residents association alleged that the workshop located at plot2273, Block 35A, off Abiodun Lawson Crescent of Amuwo Odofin residential scheme did not consider the children in the area who are more liable to succumb to environmental pollutants because their immune system is not as strong as adults.
