Listing the governors to be honoured at the Nigeria Housing Infrastructure Award, the climax of the eleventh edition of the show, the Convener included Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.

Others he listed as, Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi, Akiwunmi Ambode of Lagos, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe, Bindo Jibrilla of Adamawa and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State

The Expert noted that the awardees were selected after a critical appraisal of their last one year contributions in housing and infrastructure development in the country.

“The reason for this award is after a critical appraisal of the last one year on what they have contributed in housing and infrastructure development even though many Nigerians still need more from them.

“But the award is meant to encourage them to do more, having seen that they have started well.

“Bauchi state governor will be receiving the award of Urban Renewal governor of the year. Amosun of Ogun and Ibrahim of Yobe will receive awards of housing friendly governors of the year.

“While Ambode of Lagos and Wike of Rivers will be receiving awards of infrastructure governors of the year.

According to him, the idea behind the award is to promote and encourage excellence in the construction and housing industry in Nigeria.

Speaking on the yardstick used in nominating the awardees, he said the organization did a poll on its weekly housing programme on Africa Independent Television for people to nominate and indicate what their governors are doing in different states.

“So we received many nominations after which we shortlisted them and brought it to the level of Judges to look at what the governors have done critically.

“Then they used the yardstick of infrastructure, how many roads constructed and improvement on what they have inherited previously from the former administration.

“We received commendations from many people on Rivers state governor as well as Lagos stating that they are doing great in their States.

“Ogun state has also done wonderfully well in the area of housing especially when you look at what the state government is doing through the home charter and its housing agencies”.

On Bauchi, he said that the Urban Renewal was quite impressive while Sokoto governor was building 1000 units of houses for workers, of which about 500 units have been commissioned.

According to him, one of the objectives of the award for the governor’s category is to encourage, excellence, provision of houses and infrastructure development.

He further said, The Head of Service of the Federation Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, will be honoured for her FISH Initiative. There are other personalities in this group and in the public service.

He reiterated that “Once there is construction of houses, there will be creation of employment and you can be rest assured that crime will be reduced, as this is the reason why we are promoting housing and infrastructure development on television, radio and through all our advocacy platforms, he added.
