In order to improve affordable housing delivery in Nigeria, countries attending this year’s Abuja Housing Show have been called upon to consider investing in the country’s housing sector.

One of the Organisers of the Abuja Housing Show, Barr. Festus Adebayo while speaking in Abuja with representatative of Ghana Home Loan Board assured foreign investors that President Muhammadu Buhari government has good plans for foreign investors.

He urged participants in the housing show to not just come for the event but bring along them resources to invest in the housing sector, saying this will create jobs and render returns to stakeholders.

Adebayo who is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fesadeb Communications, producer of Housing Programme on AIT and Housing Time on Raypower particularly sought investment in affordable housing stressing that it is an area with huge and untapped potential.

The housing Promoter maintained that Nigeria needs support from International financial organisations so as to re-engineer the mortgage system.

“Estate developers should be able to access loans that are not more than one digit. And we need loans that have long tenors,” the CEO suggested.

He advised state Commissioners of Lands and Urban Development to use the forthcoming Abuja Housing Show to interact with professionals in all areas of housing/construction industry to get new ideas.

The 10th Abuja Housing Show scheduled for 18th to 20th July, 2016 will look at how to expand access to affordable housing in Africa.

Already 10 countries and 200 indigenous companies have confirmed their participation.

The Abuja Housing Show is an annual one stop-shop for real estate stakeholders presenting new products, innovative services and technology and it’s the largest in West Africa.

It is a unique forum where practitioners in the housing and construction industry meet to exchange ideas and proffer solutions to housing problems.

The forum offers ideal platform for networking, meeting visitors who have buying capacity face to face and sealing deals.

Every year, Abuja Housing Show gathers high-powered stakeholders in housing who brainstorm and present roadmap to local, state and federal government on how to make housing affordable.

This year, foreign participants are expected from Turkey, China, Netherlands, UK, USA, Ghana, South Africa, Ireland, Kenya and Brazil.

The theme of the event is “Expanding Access to Affordable Housing in Africa” and will be declared open by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Speakers from Spain, South Africa, USA, Gambia and Nigeria have been carefully selected to deliver lectures on diverse topics.

According to the organiser, Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola is the Chief Host while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muhammad Bello is Guest of Honour. The opening ceremony  will feature participation of members of National Assembly where the issue of legislative barriers to Housing Development in Nigeria will be handled as Senator Osita Izunaso, National organising secretary of APC will be the Guest Speaker, while Senate President Bukola Saraki will be special Guest of honour.

The major Guest speakers for this year Abuja Housing Show are Hakeem Ogunniran MD of UPDC, Loren Zanin of Lafarge ,the MD of Hydraform from South Africa, Mr Robert Plattner, MD of Global Green Built from Spain, Mr Alejandro Pons, Mr Mustapha NJIE MD/CEO TAF Homes, Gambia, , Prof. Mustapha Zubairu , FUT Minna and Prof. Charles Inyangete MD of NMRC.

Adebayo said there will be lottery and award dinner to mark the 10th anniversary of the show and appreciate stakeholders for their efforts in the industry.
